Both the crisp greens and the peppery bulb are delicious! Harvest young for green tops and red bulb, or mature for a longer, darker crimson bulb with a rich peppery bite. Lilia tastes as good as it looks, its rich crimson-purple bulbs making a spectacular impact on the eye as well as the palate, and its dark green tops crunchy and peppery. It can be harvested young (tops and small bright red bulb) or let mature into an elongated, densely flavored bulb. Lilia is an Italian long-day type, superb for storing as well as eating fresh. The skin is glossy and the flesh tightly packed, for an extra nibble or two from every bulb.
